Through-hole passives electronic components (or leaded components) are increasingly being used in automotive electronics. There are applications for which suitable surface-mount components (SMD) are still not available. Yet there are off-PCB applications where components are directly attached to lead frames or on the product assembly by soldering or welding. Through-hole components provide strong mechanical connections and offer extreme electrical and mechanical stress handing capabilities, which aren’t possible with SMDs. In this module, a selection of Vishay’s passive leaded components and their applications are covered.
There are two key passive components in an electronic detonator: a tantalum capacitor and an ignitor resistor. The tantalum capacitor stores energy and the ignitor resistor transforms that energy into heat, which creates the ignition. Vishay offers both components — as introduced in this module — with over one billion pieces sold to electronic detonator market alone in the past five years. They offer excellent quality and consistency, which help our customers make the safest electronic detonators available.
With the Chinese National State Grid’s new, more stringent requirements for the long-term reliability and accuracy of smart meters, Vishay passive components with robust designs ensure extremely stable performance over a long service life under harsh working conditions.
